Our Focus

Since our launch in 2019, Black Women Thriving East of the River has collaborated with community leaders to address inequities in workforce development and cancer care. Our goal is to build a future where Black women in Wards 7 and 8 have access to opportunities, resources, and effective treatments; breaking free from systemic barriers and achieving optimal health and economic success.

Workforce Development

Our Workforce Development interventions empower Black women by providing the skills, knowledge, and steadfast support needed to excel in health-related careers. We partner with employers to foster inclusive workplaces, amplifying best practices, resources, and employers that promote diversity and equitable advancement. Through training programs and employer partnerships, we help Black women achieve career stability and economic security while addressing regional healthcare workforce shortages. Additionally, employers are able to attract and retain stellar local talent, and healthcare workers at all levels become more reflective of the communities served.

Patient Navigation

Our Patient Navigation interventions are dedicated to transforming cancer care for Black women, significantly reducing health disparities by enhancing access to cancer screenings, prevention, treatment, and survivorship care. We educate the community, address systemic barriers, and support women throughout their cancer journeys. By empowering women with critical resources and compassionate guidance, we make a profound impact on their lives, families, and our community.
